Poor Cat

A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat.

She asked him if it was dead or alive.

"Dead." She was informed.

"How do you know?" she asked her pupil.

"Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move," answered the child innocently.

"You did WHAT?!?" the teacher exclaimed in surprise.

"You know," explained the boy, "I leaned over and went 'Pssst!' and it didn't move."

What Sound Does it Make?

A group of young children were siting in a circle with their teacher.

She was going around in turn asking them all questions.

"Davy, what noise does a cow make?"

"It goes moo."

"Alice, what noise does a cat make?"

"It goes meow."

"Jamie, what sound does a lamb make?"

"It goes baaa."

"Jennifer, what sound does a mouse make?"

"Errr.., it goes.. click!"

How Many Dogs Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

HOW MANY DOGS DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB?

GOLDEN RETRIEVER: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

BORDER COLLIE: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

DACHSHUND: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

ROTTWEILER: Make me.

LAB: Oh, me, me!!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I?

BULL TERRIER:  Is *that* was those were.  Kinda crunchy. I liked the way it popped.  Do you have any more?  Yum!

GERMAN SHEPHERD: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter  patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

TIBETAN TERRIER: Let the Border Collie do it. You can feed me while he's busy.

JACK RUSSELL TERRIER: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

POODLE: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

COCKER SPANIEL: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

DOBERMAN: While it's dark, I'm going to sleep on the couch.

BOXER: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

CHIHUAHUA: Yo quiero Taco Bulb.

IRISH WOLFHOUND: Can somebody else do it? I've got this hangover.

POINTER: I see it, there it is, there it is, right there.

GREYHOUND: It isn't moving. Who cares?

AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle.

OLD ENGLISH SHEEP DOG: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb?

HOUND DOG: ZZZZZZzzzzz.z.z.z..z..z..z...z

CAT: Dogs do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the question is: How long will it be before I can expect light?

All of which proves, once again, that while dogs have Masters, cats have Staff.

The Vet's Opinion

A man brought a very limp dog into the veterinary clinic. As he laid the dog on the table, the veterinary pulled out his stethoscope, placing the receptor on the dog's chest. After a moment or two, he shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry sir, but your dog has passed away." "What?" screamed the man. "How can you tell? You haven't done any testing on him or anything. I want another opinion!"

With that, the vet turned and left the room. In a few moments, he returned with a Labrador Retriever. The Retriever went right to work, sniffing the poor dog on the table and checking him out thoroughly. After a considerable amount of sniffing, the Retriever sadly shook his head and softly uttered "Woof." The veterinarian then took the Labrador out and returned in a few moments with a cat, which walked around the poor dog several times and then sadly shook his head and said, "Meow." He then jumped off the table and ran out of the room.

The veterinarian said, "There's nothing more I can do." He handed the man a bill for $600. The dog's owner went ballistic. "$600! Just to tell me my dog is dead? This is outrageous!"

The vet shook his head sadly and explained, "If you had taken my word for it, the cost would have been $50, but with the Lab work and the cat scan..."

Dear Dogs and Cats

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

When I say move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

Please note that I do not start at you when you eat, so please do the same for me.

When I say "No" in a loud, commanding voice, it does not mean "continue with what you were doing, only more diligently."

Rules for Visitors

To pacify my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets

  1. They live here. You don't.

  2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)

  3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.

  4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they

  1. Eat less.

  2. Don't ask for money all the time.

  3. Are easier to train.

  4. Usually come when called.

  5. Never drive your car.

  6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends.

  7. Don't smoke or drink.

  8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions.

  9. Don't wear your clothes.

  10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college.

  11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

How to Bathe the Cat

    1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.
    2. Lift both lids and add shampoo.
    3. Find and soothe the cat as you carry him to the bathroom.
    4. In one swift move, place the cat in the toilet, close both lids and step on top so he can't escape.
    5. The cat will self agitate and produce ample suds. (Ignore the ruckus from inside the toilet, the cat is enjoying this.)
    6. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a power rinse, which is quite effective.
    7. Have someone open an outside door, stand as far from the toilet as possible and quickly lift both lids.
    8. The now clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and go outdoors, where he will air dry.
    Sincerely,

    The Dog

A Cat Died and Went to Heaven

A cat died and went to Heaven. St. Peter met her at the gates and said, "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking." The cat thought for a minute and then said, "All my life I lived on a farm and slept rough. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on."

St. Peter said, "Say no more," and instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow to sleep on.

A few days later six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. St. Peter met the mice at the gates with the same offer that he'd made to the cat. The mice said, "Well, we've had to run and hide all our lives from cats, dogs, owls, and even people! If we could have some little roller skates, we wouldn't have to run again."

St. Peter answered, "It is done," and all the mice had beautiful little roller skates.

About a week later, St. Peter decided to look in on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. St. Peter gently awakened the cat and asked, "Is everything ok? How have you been doing? Are you happy?" The cat replied, "Oh, everything is wonderful. I have never been so happy. The pillow is so fluffy, and...those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!

The Cat Is In Heaven Now

A little boy went to school one day and while he was gone, his cat got run over by a truck. His mother is very concerned about how he will take the news. Upon his arrival home, she explains the tragedy and tries to console the boy saying, "But don't worry, the cat is in heaven with God now."

To which the boy replied, "What's God gonna do with a dead cat?"

Cat Bathing As A Martial Art

    A. Know that although the cat has the advantage of quickness and lack of concern for human life, you have the advantage of strength.

Capitalize on that advantage by selecting the battlefield. Don't try to bathe him in an open area where he can force you to chase him. Pick a very small bathroom.

If your bathroom is more than four feet square, I recommend that you get in the tub with the cat and close the sliding glass doors as if you were about to take a shower. (A simple shower curtain will not do. A berserk cat can shred a three-ply rubber shower curtain quicker than a politician can shift positions.)

    B. Know that a cat has claws and will not hesitate to remove all the skin from your body. Your advantage here is that you are smart and know how to dress to protect yourself.

I recommend canvas overalls tucked into high-top construction boots, a pair of steel-mesh gloves, an army helmet, a hockey face-mask, and a long-sleeved flak jacket.

    C. Use the element of surprise. Pick up your cat nonchalantly, as if to simply carry him to his supper dish. (Cats will not usually notice your strange attire. They have little or no interest in fashion as a rule.)

    D. Once you are inside the bathroom, speed is essential to survival. In a single liquid motion, shut the bathroom door, step into the tub enclosure, slide the glass door shut, dip the cat in the water and squirt him with shampoo.

You have begun one of the wildest 45 seconds of your life.

    E. Cats have no handles. Add the fact that he now has soapy fur, and the problem is radically compounded.

Do not expect to hold on to him for more than two or three seconds at a time. When you have him, however, you must remember to give him another squirt of shampoo and rub like crazy.

He'll then spring free and fall back into the water, thereby rinsing himself off. (The national record for cats is three latherings, so don't expect too much.)

    F. Next, the cat must be dried. Novice cat bathers always assume this part will be the most difficult, for humans generally are worn out at this point and the cat is just getting really determined.

In fact, the drying is simple compared with what you have just been through.

That's because by now the cat is semi-permanently affixed to your right leg.

You simply pop the drain plug with your foot, reach for your towel and wait. (Occasionally, however, the cat will end up clinging to the top of your army helmet. If this happens, the best thing you can do is to shake him loose and to encourage him toward your leg.) After all the water is drained from the tub, it is a simple matter to just reach down and dry the cat.

In a few days the cat will relax enough to be removed from your leg. He will usually have nothing to say for about three weeks and will spend a lot of time sitting with his back to you.

He might even become psychoceramic and develop the fixed stare of a plaster figurine.

You will be tempted to assume he is angry.

    This isn't usually the case.

As a rule he is simply plotting ways to get through your defenses and injure you for life the next time you decide to give him a bath.

But at least now he smells a lot better.

    Missing Parrot

There once was an old lady who was very concerned about her missing parrot.

Not knowing what to do, she called 911. "You gotta help me find my parrot!"

The operator patiently replied, "We can't help you with that, ma'am. This number only deals with emergencies."

But the lady persisted, and then the operator told her not to be concerned, that the parrot should fly back in a few days.

Then, out of desperation, the lady begged, "But you don't understand! The only thing he says is "Here, kitty, kitty!"

    Can't Sleep

A veterinarian surgeon had had a hell of a day, but when he got home from tending to all the sick animals his wife was waiting with a long cool drink and a romantic candle-lit dinner, after which they had a few more drinks and went happily to bed.

At about 2:00 in the morning, the phone rang. "Is this the vet?" asked an elderly lady's voice."

Yes, it is", replied the vet, "Is this an emergency?"

"Well, sort of." said the elderly lady. "There's a whole bunch of cats on the roof outside making a terrible noise mating and I can't get to sleep. What can I do about it?"

There was a sharp intake of breath from the vet, who then patiently replied "Open the window and tell them they're wanted on the phone"

"Really?" said the elderly lady, "Will that will that stop them?"

"Should do," said the vet, "it stopped me!"

    Feline Physics Laws

    Law of Cat Inertia

A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force - such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby scurrying mouse.

    Law of Cat Motion

A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good reason to change direction.

    Law of Cat Magnetism

All blue blazers and black sweaters attract cat hair in direct proportion to the darkness of the fabric.

    Law of Cat Thermodynamics

Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case of a cat, in which case all heat flows to the cat.

    Law of Cat Stretching

A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the nap just taken.

    Law of Cat Sleeping

All cats must sleep with people whenever possible, in a position as uncomfortable for the people involved, and as comfortable as possible for the cat.

    Law of Cat Elongation

A cat can make her body long enough to reach just about any counter top that has anything remotely interesting on it.

    Law of Cat Obstruction

A cat must lay on the floor in such a position to obstruct the maximum amount of human foot traffic.

    Law of Cat Acceleration

A cat will accelerate at a constant rate, until he gets good and ready to stop.

    Law of Dinner Table Attendance

Cats must attend all meals when anything good is served.

    Law of Rug Configuration

No rug may remain in its naturally flat state for very long.

    Law of Obedience Resistance

A cat's resistance varies in proportion to a human's desire for her to do something.

    First Law of Energy Conservation

Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.

    Second Law of Energy Conservation

Cats also know that energy can only be stored by a lot of napping.

    Law of Refrigerator Observation

If a cat watches a refrigerator long enough, someone will come along and take out something good to eat.

    Law of Electric Blanket Attraction

Turn on an electric blanket and a cat will jump into bed at the speed of light.

    Law of Random Comfort Seeking

A cat will always seek, and usually take over, the most comfortable spot in any given room.

    Law of Bag/Box Occupancy

All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the earliest possible nanosecond.

    Law of Cat Embarrassment

A cat's irritation rises in direct proportion to her embarrassment times the amount of human laughter.

    Law of Milk Consumption

A cat will drink his weight in milk, squared, just to show you he can.

    Law of Furniture Replacement

A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the cost of the furniture.

    Law of Cat Landing

A cat will always land in the softest place possible; often the mid- section of an unsuspecting, reclining human.

    Law of Fluid Displacement

A cat immersed in milk will displace her own volume, minus the amount of milk consumed.

    Law of Cat Disinterest

A cat's interest level will vary in inverse proportion to the amount of effort a human expends in trying to interest him.

    Law of Pill Rejection

Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.

    Law of Cat Composition

    A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-Matter + It Doesn't Matter.

    Cat's Christmas

    'Twas the night before Christmas
    And all through the house
    Not a creature was stirring,
    Not even a mouse.

'Cuzz the cat had pounced on him
    And tore him apart -
    Ate his mouse intestines
    And chewed up his heart.

    Kitty thought he heard sleighbells,
Which made him take pause -
    He stopped daintily licking
    The blood from his claws.

    "Must be Santa," thought Kitty
    (That quite clever cat)
    'Cuz nobody else climbs down
    The chimney like that.

    Indeed it was ol' Santa
    So jolly and fat
With a huge load of presents
    And all for the cat!

    "Wow, the best Christmas ever!"
    Kitty thought with a purr,
Then he coughed up a hairball
    And shed some more fur!

    Wrapping Presents With A Cat

    1. Clear large space on table for wrapping present.
    2. Go to closet and collect bag in which present is contained, and shut door.
    3. Open door and remove cat from closet.
    4. Go to cupboard and retrieve rolls of wrapping paper.
    5. Go back and remove cat from cupboard.
    6. Go to drawer, and collect transparent sticky tape, ribbons, scissors, labels, etc.
    7. Lay out presents and wrapping materials on table, to enable wrapping strategy to be formed.
    8. Go back to drawer to get string, remove cat that has been in the drawer since last visit and collect string.
    9. Remove present from bag.
    10. Remove cat from bag.
    11. Open box to check present, remove cat from box, replace present.
    12. Lay out paper to enable cutting to size.
    13. Try and smooth out paper, realize cat is underneath and remove cat.
    14. Cut the paper to size, keeping the cutting line straight.
    15. Throw away first sheet as cat chased the scissors, and tore the paper.
    16. Cut second sheet of paper to size - by putting cat in the bag the present came in.
    17. Place present on paper.
    18. Lift up edges of paper to seal in present. Wonder why edges don't reach. Realize cat is between present and paper. Remove cat.
    19. Place object on paper, to hold in place while tearing transparent sticky tape.
    20. Spend 20 minutes carefully trying to remove transparent sticky tape from cat with pair of nail scissors.
    21. Seal paper with sticky tape, making corners as neat as possible.
    22. Look for roll of ribbon. Chase cat down hall in order to retrieve ribbon.
    23. Try to wrap present with ribbon in a two-directional turn.
    24. Re-roll ribbon and remove paper, which is now torn due to cat's enthusiastic ribbon chase.
    25. Repeat steps 17-24 until you reach last sheet of paper.
    26. Decide to skip steps 17-21 in order to save time and reduce risk of losing last sheet of paper. Retrieve old cardboard box that is the right size for sheet of paper.
    27. Put present in box, and tie down with string.
    28. Remove string, open box and remove cat.
    29. Put all packing materials in bag with present and head for locked room.
    30. Once inside lockable room, lock door and start to relay out paper and materials.
    31. Remove cat from box, unlock door, put cat outside door, close and relock.
    32. Repeat previous step as often as is necessary (until you can hear cat from outside door)
    33. Lay out last sheet of paper. (This will be difficult in the small area of the toilet, but do your best)
    34. Discover cat has already torn paper. Unlock door go out and hunt through various cupboards, looking for sheet of last year's paper. Remember that you haven't got any left because cat helped with this last year as well.
    35. Return to lockable room, lock door, and sit on toilet and try to make torn sheet of paper look presentable.
    36. Seal box, wrap with paper and repair by very carefully sealing with sticky tape. Tie up with ribbon and decorate with bows to hide worst areas.
    37. Label. Sit back and admire your handiwork, congratulate yourself on completing a difficult job.
    38. Unlock door, and go to kitchen to make drink and feed cat.
    39. Spend 15 minutes looking for cat until coming to obvious conclusion.
    40. Unwrap present, untie box and remove cat.
    41. Go to store and buy a gift bag.

    Woman And Cats

I've never understood why women love cats. Cats are independent, they don't listen, they don't come in when you call, they like to stay out all night, and when they're home they like to be left alone and sleep.

In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat.

    Yard Sale

I was at a yard sale one day and saw a box marked "Electronic cat and dog caller - guaranteed to work."

I looked inside and was amused to see an electric can opener.
